Data Protection by Byteview Systems
Last Intelligence Update: March 24, 2026
1. Intelligence Gathering
OpenCrimeMap, operated by Byteview Systems ("we," "us," or "our"), is designed to enhance community safety through shared intelligence. We collect minimal personal data—primarily your agent codename, email address, and IP address—to maintain the integrity of our verification system. Location data is used strictly for incident plotting and local radius filtering.
2. Security Standards
Your credentials are encrypted using industry-standard salted hashing and tokens. Intelligence reports are stored on Cloudflare's edge-native infrastructure, ensuring high availability and robust protection against external threats. We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect against unauthorized access.
3. Global Data Transmission
As a global network, your intelligence reports may be transmitted to and stored on servers located outside of your home country. By using the dashboard, you consent to this global data movement.
4. Data Sovereignty
Agents retain the right to expunge their intelligence records. You may request deletion of your profile and associated data by contacting our Data Integrity Office. Biometric data (avatars) is stored in secure R2 buckets and can be updated or removed via the Command Center.
5. Communications
We use your email address to transmit critical intelligence alerts, including verification updates, community debriefings, and account recovery instructions. You may manage these notification protocols within your agent settings.
Legal Authority
Byteview Systems complies with applicable data protection laws. For inquiries regarding your data footprint, contact our Data Integrity Office at intelligence@opencrimemap.ca
